The challenge

Where they were stuck

Since 2006, the National Hole in One Registry in Charlotte, North Carolina, has been the official record keeper for golf’s most exciting shot, storing verified achievements from golfers around the world.

The WordPress site had become slow and hard to scale. Its backend was not designed for structured sports achievement data, and even simple content updates needed technical help.

The solution

What we built

We rebuilt the registry as a React.js application with a Node.js and MySQL backend and a custom CMS designed around achievement records. Structured data replaced ad-hoc WordPress posts. Performance tuning made searching and browsing records fast. The registry team now updates content themselves through an intuitive editor.

  1. 01

    Structured achievement data

A MySQL data model built for verified hole-in-one records, not blog posts.

  2. 02

    React.js front end

A fast, app-like experience for golfers searching and browsing records.

  3. 03

    Purpose-built CMS

Editors manage content and records without developer help.

  4. 04

    Leaner hosting

Removing WordPress overhead cut server costs by 40%.

The results

  • Server costs fell 40% once the WordPress overhead was gone
  • The editorial team has full control through a purpose-built CMS
